How to Tell the Speed of a Flash Drive

Flash drives come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are also come in many different storage capacities and speeds. To the average person, the use of a flash drive is sporadic, but to those that use them often, speed does matter. Flash drives not only contain a drive for you to store your files, they also contain memory. The faster the memory, the faster they read, load, save and copy files. The speed of a hard drive can be discovered by downloading a program specifically designed for this purpose.

Instructions
Check Flash

1
Use Check Flash to determine the speed of your flash drive. Check Flash is a program created to format, test, and manage and clean your flash drive. You also have the option to run a read and write test to determine the speed of your drive. The test also reports any errors on your drive, although it does not repair them. The website is written in Cyrillic, but it has an English version, too. Be aware that running a test on a flash drive will delete all data written to it.

2
Plug the flash drive into your computer. Copy all files from the flash drive to a folder on your computer to be copied back later. Download Check Flash (see Resources).

3.Double-click the downloaded file. Check Flash will then open. Click "As Logical Drive." Select your drive in the "Drive" drop-down menu, and then click "Start." This test may take some time, depending on the size of your flash drive. When the test is finished, your drive speed results will be displayed at the bottom of the program, and you can close it.
